A great innovation in the protection against Newcastle and Gumboro Diseases

Libourne, August 06th 2012: Newcastle Disease (ND) and Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) are amongst the most damaging diseases to poultry production, particularly broiler production. ND can induce subclinical challenges to the respiratory complex, causing heavy losses in countries facing velogenic challenges. IBD represents a continuous threat to the broiler immune system and to production performance all around the world.

Achieving a higher, homogenous level of protection against both diseases would be a major step forwards for broiler production and profitability.

Vaccinating against Newcastle and Gumboro disease has always been difficult for broiler producers because of the heterogeneity created by varying MDA levels in chicks, as well as potential post vaccination reactions induced by conventional vaccines.

In the recent past, hatchery vaccination against IBD with Immune Complex vaccines (Transmune® IBD) has resulted in an increasing level and homogeneity of protection. Better vaccine administration, thanks to hatchery vaccination, as well as Immune Complex technology, breaking through the MDA barrier, has tremendously improved the immunity created through IBD vaccination in comparison to conventional field application. Making producers lives simpler and stress free.

The recent introduction of new vector vaccine technology in Vectormune® ND has proven  to be a new and a safer solution to the MDA problem, providing lifelong protection in one single shot from the hatchery, in low to high challenge areas.

Vectormune® ND also protects against Marek’s disease.

The real innovation was proving that the two vaccines could be used together in a single dose administration at the hatchery. Ceva’s research work has shown that it is possible to dilute these 2 innovative vaccines (Vectormune® ND and Transmune® IBD) in the same diluent bag and administer in one shot. For the first time, a single dose of the vaccines given in the hatchery (in ovo or subcutaneously) can produce lifelong protection against Newcastle and Gumboro disease, whatever the level of maternally derived antibodies and with perfect safety.

Ceva calls this significant step forward in ND and IBD prevention, combining Vectormune® ND and Transmune® IBD – The “Perfect Pair” - Double Protection in One Shot.
